Becoming a National Merit Scholar starts with taking the PSAT/NMSQT (PreliminarySAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) which is a standardized test to introduce the SAT. The scores from this test are used to determine eligibility and qualification for the National Merit Scholarship Program. A student must place in the top 1% of the state on this test to be a semifinalist for the National Merit Scholar.
Only JUNIOR year scores will count towards the National Merit Scholarship Program, but you can take it as a sophomore for practice. The PSAT/NMSQT is optional and open to juniors and sophomores.

The inaugural class, chosen by the Hall of Fame committee, features five former coaches and administrators, 13 former athletes, and two state championship teams.
